Tips For Good Skin Care

Having good skin is not easy, but it is possible. As someone who’s been — and still goes — through the process of getting good skin, allow me to give you whatever help I can. You can do it!!

The first step is to examine yourself. Ask yourself some basic questions, like: what kind of products are you buying to treat your skin?

Look in a mirror, and ask yourself:

When did we decide that spots and marks and lines and pimples and bumps and the leftover scars from all those things are ugly? That skin could be “bad” or “good”?

People get rich off of our dislike of ourselves.

When we accepted that skin could be bad, we also became vulnerable to advertising urging us to spend lots and lots of money on products to fix it. Proactiv does not want you to love your skin. Companies that want to sell you concealer and cover-up and creams and acne-fighting face washes do not want you to love your skin. Loving your skin — loving yourself — is rebellious.

It can be really hard to love yourself because there are many, many people who have a vested financial interest in maintaining your insecurities.

You get “good skin” by investing money in products to get rid of acne, following a consistent skincare routine using those products, etc. etc. etc. There is absolutely nothing wrong or shameful about doing that, or about wanting to.

But you can, if you want to, also get “good skin” for free. Having good skin is really just a matter of deciding your skin is good.

Decide your acne looks good. It does. Acne looks like the kids I know and love. Kids I’ve kissed at parties. My friends. My brother. Myself. It looks like youth.

I remember reading something when I was younger about how if you want good skin, you should avoid touching your face as much as possible. That’s so weird to me. What kind of life is a life with rules like that? I want a physical, tactile, close-up and in-love relationship with myself, with my skin, with my face.

Acne looks like a life lived worrying about more important things than good skin.

Acne is sexy. Wearing it with confidence is sexy. Bad skin is sexy.

Not that there’s any such thing as bad skin.
