Places To Go In Prague Czech Republic |
In this article, I am going to answer the FAQ about Prague and best places to go in Prague Czech Republic but before we talk about this let me give you some information about this Country.
So, let Is go through the things that you want to know before coming to the Magical Country:
Money
The Czech Republic is not in the eurozone, the official currency of the Czech Republic is the Czech crown (Kč/ in English CZK). 1 euro is around 25CZK. You will find a link to the Czech National Bank and to a website with the best exchange point in Prague in the end of this section.Czech Money
Coins: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 CZK* All the coins are useful (not the case with euros — 1cent, 2cent, 5cent)
Banknotes: 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000 and 5000 CZK
*You should avoid the 2000 and 5000 banknotes for small purchases.
Although CZK is the official currency in the Czech Republic, you still can pay by Euro almost everywhere specially in Prague. However, you will not get the best exchange rate except in the international chains (supermarkets, coffee chains, fast-food chains, …).
Transport
Public transport is efficient in Prague in a way that you don’t need a rental car or taxis. Actually, it is cheaper and faster xD. There are 3 lines of Metro, 10s of tramways, and 100s of buses.Tramway in the old town
The tickets for a single trip are for 30 minutes (for 24czk) or 90 minutes (for 32czk). The daily ticket (24h) is for 110czk and if you are here for 3 days (72h) your ticket costs 310czk.*If you are willing to stay more than 5 days, I recommend buying a monthly ticket for 570czk
*To find transport connection, check out this website (they have also mobile app) www.idos.cz
*To rent bikes use Rekola, but you will need a credit card to use the app.
You can use Uber and yeah it is possible to pay by cash or taxi companies like Tick Tack, Nejlevnější Taxi or MODRÝ ANDĚL (if you went out with your car and end up drinking beers with your friends, they can give you a ride for you and your car xD at night).
*Ride for the airport to the city center should cost you around 500czk (20 euro), be careful from scams.
Where to stay?
You have many options such as Hotels, Hostels, Airbnb, apartments, etc. I am going to describe the different areas by character so that it helps you choosing the right places to go in prague czech republicOld town : you won’t need transportation since everything is close to you. However, a lot of going on around and there is a big possibility that you won’t have a calm night.
Lesser town (malá strana) : It is near the castle, Charles Bridge and many beautiful parks. You will need transportation and there are almost no supermarkets nearby (most of the prices are for tourists).
New Town : A great neighborhood, restaurants and cafés are excellent in the area. Most of your neighbors are tourists, those who hurry up are called the locals. You will need transportation and fortunately there are two metro stations in the area and many tramways pass by that zone.
The rest of the areas are cheaper, calmer (exception: Žižkov) and most of the residents are locals, so you won’t be scammed.
How many days should I spend in Prague?
Prague astronomical clockWhen i was in Prague, I met tens of people who planned their stay in Prague just one day or two days and double of that period in Budapest (sometimes more time for Bratislava than Prague :D). I think you know what I am going to say by now. Minimum days to spend in Prague should be 3 or 4 days. If you want to enjoy the city and yourself, one week to 10 days.
Plan A — 3 days:
You should not enter every monument/museum in your way. Consider taking transportation so that you won’t be tired by the end of the day.Plan B — royal stay:
Life is good, you have enough time to visit the main monuments, party, enjoy the traditional Czech cuisine and save energy for the next city/country.Plan Z — Underestimated city / just 1 night or even less
You can start by Prague Castle (don’t spend more than 60 -90 minutes in that area)than follow the Royal way (Coronation route). Next stop will be Charles Bridge that will lead you to the old Town Square. You should be tired by now from walking, so reward yourself by a hot coffee in Skautský Institut or another place (avoid the coffees in the square if you don’t want to be scammed) .You should have enough time to enjoy a traditional dish. Later on, go to Wenceslas Square.
*This can be done the other way around (from Wenceslas Square to the Castle, but I recommend the first direction because Prague Castle in on the top of the Hill).
How much money?
1000czk without accommodation is fair enough. I will tell you why :Transport: 110czk for 24h
Food: 600czk (150–200 per meal)
Coffee&cake: 150czk (coffee for 50czk, cake for 100czk)
The rest can be used for entrance to museum (sometimes it will cost you 250 czk, but generally around 150czk or less)
Places To Visit In Prague:
The list is so long, you should make your priorities. If you like museums, Prague offers museum for any kind of thing (Torture, toys, chocolate, Lego, Apple Inc.,). You love outdoors?.. well Prague offers that too, but if you can’t stand cold weather, you should visit the City during Spring or Summer Season.Old town square
Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, Old Town Square, Prague Zoo, Wenceslas square, National museum, etc.
Food
The traditional Czech cuisine is so authentic. The food is heavy, tasty and not healthy :D Main ingredients are meat (mainly pork), potatoes, cabbage and flour. So, don’t expect salads or vegetarian food. The best thing that you will enjoy, in the Czech Republic, are snacks and cakes.
