As we gear up for the holidays, we all ask ourselves, “How are we going to shop for everyone on our list?” Then we remember the best invention of all: Amazon.
Amazon makes it easy to fill up your shopping cart with gifts for all your family and friends, and press “Buy” in one simple swoop—without even having to leave your house.
The only thing that’s annoying about buying anything online is the shipping costs. Sometimes shipping costs the same if not more than the actual item you’re buying!
If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you typically get free two-day shipping on all eligible items. And if you’re not, there’s a $25-$45 minimum before the free shipping kicks in.
But now, Amazon is giving everyone a pretty sweet offer. In preparation for the holidays, starting today, November 5, Amazon is doing away with shipping costs for hundreds of millions of items. And that’s for everyone, even if you’re not a Prime member.
“This holiday, customers can enjoy free shipping with no minimum purchase amount on orders that will arrive in time for Christmas, including items from Amazon’s expertly curated Gift Guides across electronics, fashion and more ..” said Doug Herrington, Senior Vice President of North American Retail at Amazon. “With hundreds of millions of items available for free shipping to all Amazon customers and more than three million items available with Prime FREE Same-Day Delivery, customers can enjoy the largest selection of items that are fast and free.”
Don’t worry, that membership still offers its perks. For Prime members, Amazon is ensuring that more than 3 million items will become available for same-day delivery during the holiday season—which makes things really convenient for last-minute shoppers (guilty!).
According to Amazon’s recent earnings report, sales increased 29 percent to $56.58 billion, but were still below the expected $57.05 billion. For their current quarter that ends next month, sales are expected to be in the range of $66.5 billion and $72.5 billion.
According to data from the National Retail Federation, Amazon sales are expected to rise between 4.3 and 4.8 percent this year for a total of $717.45 billion to $720.89 billion.
“Thanks to a healthy economy and strong consumer confidence, we believe that this holiday season will continue to reflect the growth we’ve seen over the past year,” the group said in a statement.
